Grounding, also known as earthing, is the practice of connecting your body to the earth’s natural electrical charge. This practice has been shown to have numerous health benefits, from reducing inflammation to improving sleep quality. When our bodies are not grounded, we accumulate excess positive charge which is an electrical imbalance that can lead to a number of health problems like inflammation, pain, and hormonal disturbances.

Grounding works by allowing the earth’s negative charge to neutralize these excess positive charges and restore balance within the body. As one of the layers of the SAMINA Sleep System, Lokosana® was created to improve sleep quality through the desired stabilization of the earth’s magnetic fields known as earthing or grounding. By grounding your body at night while sleeping, the body is restored to its normal electrical state. Lokosana® works through a current-less connection through an electrical outlet only using the grounding component like it does with your electrical appliances. SAMINA also took an uncommon approach to grounding by working via indirect contact with your body. This means you don’t touch or come in physical contact with the silver fabric inside the pad. To achieve this, similar to any grounding device, having direct contact between your body and metal can expose you to electrostatic chargeback, which makes the indirect contact method a safer choice and eliminates the risk of electric shock.

The grounding pad acts as an earthing mat that covers a great area of your body. Bio-magnets further assist in restoring the balance of the Earth’s magnetic field. The result is similar to the effect of walking barefoot and having direct contact with the earth.

It’s positioned perfectly between the natural rubber mattress and the wool mattress topper, while being connected with a plug that goes directly into a common household outlet. When your outlet has 3 holes, it is likely grounded, meaning that it is connected through the electrical panel and connected to a grounding rod that goes at least 8 feet below the ground.

There is no electric current flowing between the grounding pad and the outlet; rather, the pad works due to the connection with the grounding rod, whose sole purpose is to dissipate static electricity like lightning. This is how your household appliances are protected.
